Khaled Hosseini

Khaled Hosseini was born in 1965 in Kabul, Afghanistan. His father was a high diplomat official that worked with Afghan’s Foreign Ministries. His mother was a school teacher at the local high school, where she taught Farsi, the Persian language. In 1976, Khaled and his family moved to Paris. After much debate about where to move to next, Hosseini’s family decided to move to San Jose, California. Then in 1984, Khaled graduated from high school planning on attending Santa Clara University to get his degree in Biology. In 1989, he went to the University of California to study medicine. After several years of studying, he finally finished his residency.

Khaled’s writing career didn’t start until he was practicing medicine. He wrote his first book in 2001 called “The Kite Runner.” It has been a best seller all across the world but was banned in several countries because of its content. Then in 2006, he announced his second novel called, “A Thousand Splendid Suns.” Khaled has experienced both good and bad things throughout his life. But, no matter what type of situation he was in, he always knew that there was more out of life. Khaled strived for success no matter what major he was studying for. In his writings, he wanted his reader to create this image of what it was like for young boys, like Amir and Hassan to grow up in a country that was on the verge of a war. He wanted to show people that not all Afghans are bad. Khaled wanted to make the country of Afghanistan known to everyone.
